Vocations Ministry

“Growing together in holiness, in service to Christ and one another."

This is the newly adopted mission statement of the St. Mel Vocation Ministry.

Re-energized in the Fall of 2016 by the ordination of one of our seminarians, Father Alex Estrella, the Vocations Ministry  has been actively encouraging our parishioners to grow in holiness (our primary vocation in life) and helping others in discerning their secondary God-given vocation to religious life, ordained life as a priest or permanent deacon, married life, or a single life of generous service to Christ.

Working with the Diocese of Sacramento Office of Priestly and Religious Vocations - let us continue to encourage one another and ask our God to call at least one man or one woman from each parish in our diocese to the priesthood or religious life.

Understanding that marriage is the foundation of the family, let us continue to encourage and foster strong, holy marriages, where parents speak often with their children about their future vocation and being open to God's call.

"Lord of the harvest, your Word finds a home in our hearts, calls us into community and invites us to generous service of the human family.  Bless with courage and spirit your priestly people, called to full participation in the one Body of Christ.  May many choose to respond in public service to your call offered in Jesus' name.  Amen. "

Cardinal Joseph L. Bernadine (1928-1996)
