St. Mel Catholic Faith Formation
DO YOUR CHILDREN OR GRANDCHILDREN NEED TO
LEARN ABOUT THEIR FAITH AND RECEIVE THEIR SACRAMENTS?
At St. Mel Church, we are accepting children ages 5-14 for catechetical instruction in our CFF classes. If your child is 15 or older, please contact Michael Faber, the OCIA coordinator. He can be reached at mfaber@elkgrove.net or (916)719-5565.
Currently, we are grouping children into 3 classes.
Each Sacrament takes two years of CFF. Since we have just started CFF after a several-year hiatus, we are currently only doing Year 1. Next fall, we will have Year 1 and Year 2 classes. Year 2 classes will be available to students who have completed Year 1 at St. Mel’s or another Catholic Parish.
Those needing First Communion/Reconciliation between K and 2nd grades. These children are meeting in the School Library. Sundays between 9:15 and 10:15 a.m.
Those needing First Communion/Reconciliation between grades 3 and 5. These children ae meeting in the JP2 room upstairs from the library on Sundays between 9:15 and 10:15 a.m..
Those needing Confirmation (and perhaps other sacraments) between grades 6 and 9. These young people are meeting in the School Cafeteria on Sundays between 9:15 and 10:15 a.m.
Beginning in August 2026, Year 2 classes will be offered in additional locations.
Note: We will always be willing to let your child attend CFF, but if they start too late in the year, they will need to repeat the Year.
Sacraments will be offered to children completing Year 2 in the spring of 2027.
CFF for sacramental preparation is a two-year commitment. You must register your child to attend. Fees are $75.00 per student per year. Please contact the Church Office to register. (916)967-1229. The Church office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
