| ST. VINCENT DE PAUL Christ reminds us, "The poor will be with us always." Donations in June allowed our Society to assist 170 people with food, utilities, rental assistance and counseling. There were a total of 268 hours donated by our volunteers. "SOAP FOR SOULS" to help the homeless has been a great success but we are running low on supplies. Remember us when you are in motels, hotels or shopping. We need all kinds of soap and paper products. Food stamps will not allow these essentials. Our next monthly meeting will be held at the Rectory Conference room at 7PM on August 19. All are welcome. |

TO ALL FAITHFUL CATHOLIC CHRISTIANS
Do you want to come closer to the Lord? Do you want to know more about Him? Do you want to be able to just talk to Him in prayer? Do you want to be able to explain your beliefs to family and friends
If you said "yes" to any of the above questions you must turn the Holy Book He inspired. As you read and study the scriptures, you will gain an even greater understanding of what He did and said and how it should affect your daily life. St. Mel's Scripture Study Program provides engaging video presentations by Jeff Cavins followed by small group discussion. Several studies will be offered throughout the week in both the morning and evening starting in September: The Great Adventure, The Acts of the Apostles, The Gospel of Matthew, the Book of James, Revelation and Epic (the story of the church through the ages). Watch the bulletin for further information. Registration begins in the next few weeks.

| SUCCESSFUL RUMMAGE SALE The 7th annual St. Mel's Parish Rummage sale was another huge success -- with sale proceeds totaling nearly $6,300 including more than $500 in donations. The proceeds will be used by the Father Doheny Fund to support religious education. Non-sold items were donated to Loaves & Fishes, the Bishop Gallegos Maternity Home and the Saint Vincent de Paul Society. The Directors of the Father Doheny Fund and the Fair Oaks Council of the Knights of Columbus Fund and the Fair Oaks Council of the Knights of Columbus (sale co-sponsor) thank all St. Mel parishioners-- both donors and shoppers -- the women of the parish who assisted with the event and all other volunteers for their fantastic and deeply appreciated support. We look forward to an even better sale next year. |
