bulletST. VINCENT DE PAUL
Christ reminds us,
"The poor will be with us always."
Donations in June allowed our Society to assist 170 people with food, utilities, rental assistance and counseling.  There were a total of 268 hours donated by our volunteers. "SOAP FOR SOULS" to help the homeless has been a great success but we are running low on supplies. Remember us when you are in motels, hotels or shopping. We need all kinds of soap and paper products. Food stamps will not allow these essentials.
Our next monthly meeting will be held at the Rectory Conference room at 7PM on August 19. All are welcome.

TO ALL FAITHFUL CATHOLIC CHRISTIANS

Do you want to come closer to the Lord? Do you want to know more about Him? Do you want to be able to just talk to Him in prayer? Do you want to be able to explain your beliefs to family and friends

If you said "yes" to any of the above questions you must turn the Holy Book He inspired. As you read and study the scriptures, you will gain an even greater understanding of what He did and said and how it should affect your daily life. St. Mel's Scripture Study Program provides engaging video presentations by Jeff Cavins followed by small group discussion. Several studies will be offered throughout the week in both the morning and evening starting in September:  The Great Adventure, The Acts of the Apostles, The Gospel of Matthew, the Book of James, Revelation and Epic (the story of the church through the ages). Watch the bulletin for further information. Registration begins in the next few weeks.

St. Mel's Parish Center Update Building the Vision
You may have noticed the activity across the street as the St. Mel Parish Center Project approaches groundbreaking! Within the next few weeks, the trees and house on the site will be removed, the pad will be graded and the wall will be started, all with a preliminary permit. The building plans are progressing and we have received our first round of plan comments back from the County. Once the plans are finally approved, we can pull our full building permit and start on the foundation and vertical construction. We expect the full permit to be in hand by the end of August. We will soon be planning a second round of informational presentations and a groundbreaking ceremony. Look for more information on these events in the bulletin in the weeks to come. They can also be found here in the Upcoming Events section or http://stmelchurch.org/parishcenterproject.htm for the latest on the Parish Center.
