REMINDER OF POLICY FOR TAKING THE HOLY EUCHARIST TO THE SICK
Priests. Deacons, and Extraordinary Eucharistic Ministers do not distribute extra consecrated Hosts during Mass. Those approved to
distribute Holy Eucharist to the sick are asked to observe the following instructions:
Before Mass, go to the vestibule and take an index card available on one of the tables. Print your name, telephone number and the number of the
consecrated hosts requested.
Take the index card with an approved pyx (a special container for the Sacred Host), go to the altar area, and after making the proper genuflection or bow,
place the pyx on top of your index card on the ledge next to the tabernacle. During Mass the priest will fill the pyx with the Holy Eucharist.
After Mass has ended, approach the altar to retrieve your pyx (leaving the index card on the ledge), and proceed in a reverent manner out of the
church.
This policy has been implemented to ensure the proper custody of the Holy Eucharist, and to avoid confusion about taking consecrated hosts outside of
the church without proper training or approval.
